Chinese Law and Governance
2. Objectives
This program aims to train high-level legal professionals who have thorough understanding in Chinese law as well as global view, and who have a solid theoretical foundation of law as well as a broad knowledge of legal practices. Graduates of this program are expected to grasp Chinese legal system and regulations, conduct legal research independently, develop an ability of discussing and debating in English, and grow into extraordinary legal practitioners who are qualified for legal work in government, law firms and enterprises.
3. Program Duration
Normative Study Period: 2.5 years
Mode of Attendance: Full-Time
4. Credit Requirements
The requirement is no less than 30 credits, of which common course takes up 6 credits, core course 12 credits, elective course 8 credits, and compulsories 4 credits.
5. Graduation and Degree
Master of Laws degree certificate and graduation certificate will be conferred on students that successfully complete the sections required by curriculum.

Non-Chinese Citizen
With Bachelor Degree, not above 35 years old
7. Admission Requirements
Photocopies of both certificate of graduation and certificate of bachelor’s degree or above. If the certificates are neither in Chinese nor English, a true copy of notarized translation must be submitted. The certificates should be notarized by the local embassy or the consulate of China.
For applicants who will be graduating in the same year of application, certificate of expected graduation issued by the current academic institution is required. If admitted, the student shall submit graduation certificates at registration. Original or notarized academic transcripts during undergraduate years or postgraduate years. If the academic transcripts are not in Chinese or English, a true copy of notarized translations must be submitted. The transcript should be notarized by the local embassy or consulate of China.
A certificate of competence in English. (A score of 80 and above in TOEFL; or a minimum overall band of 6.0 in IELTS; or materials that proves candidates have taken a degree program of which the medium of instruction was English)
Confidential recommendation reports from two referees at or above the level of associate professor. (Be sure to include the referee’s contact information)
Personal Statement. Around 1000 words in English. Information on study and work experience, academic research achievements, research proposal, and future plan after graduation should be included.
* In addition to the above application materials, International Student Office of Tongji University may ask the candidate to provide supplementary materials. Please note that whether a student is admitted or not, the materials submitted will not be returned.
8. Fee and Payment
Application fee: 600 yuan (CNY)
Tuition fee: 80000 yuan (CNY)
* A student shall pay the application fee when submitting materials;
Once paid, the application fee cannot be refunded;
Tuition fee and accidental injury and in hospital insurance fee (¥800 per annum) shall be paid at registration.
